There is no need to buy salad dressing.
First, the ingredients list is most likely really long, and you probably can’t pronounce half of what’s on the list. Second, if the first statement isn’t true, then you probably paid an arm and a leg for your dressing.
No longer, friends! I am here to save the day. Or Mark Bittman is here to save the day. Whichever. Bittman writes a column for the New York Times and is the author of How to Cook Everything. One of these days, I’ll own a copy. Although, as you learned on Wednesday, I have this bad habit of buying cookbooks, and letting them collect dust.
This recipe for a basic vinaigrette is so easy. Really and truly. And it will take you roughly 10 minutes. Including washing dishes after you’re done.
You’ll need:
- Olive oil
- Vinegar (of your choosing)
- Mustard (or ground mustard seed)
- 1 shallot, diced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
See Bittman’s recipe for complete directions. You’ll never want to go back!
